Some NETGEAR Managed and Smart switches support licensed features to add additional functionality to the device. When you purchase a software license, you will receive an e-mail with a license key. If you have not recieved an e-mail with the license key, please contact your place of purchase. If you have additional questions, please contact NETGEAR Technical Support.

If you have a license key, follow the steps below to activate a license.

Step 1: Register your switch.

Your switch MUST be registered to your account in order to proceed. If your switch is already registered, go to Step 2.

1. Log in to https://my.netgear.com with your account e-mail and password.
   

2. After authenticating to your account, click 'Register a Product'.
3. Enter the serial number and date of purchase and click 'Register'.
   
4. You will be prompted to purchase a service contract. Purchase if desired. We will proceed with "No Thanks".
5. Now your switch is registered. Proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Get your License File

1. Navigate back to https://my.netgear.com and click "My Products".
2. Confirm that your newly registered device is in the list.
3. At the bottom, click "Activate License Key for Registered Product".
   

4. You will notice a line with your switch that lists the model and serial number. Under license key, you will see a link called 'Activate'. Click 'Activate'.
   
5. A window will appear with Serial Number and License key fields. Enter the license key.
   

6. Click 'Submit' after entering the license key.
   
7. If successful, you'll observe output that indicates what kind of features you have activated for the switch and a download link appears. Click 'Download' to grab the license key file.
   
8. A file should download. This file is called [Model Name]-[Serial Number].lic

Step 3: Activate License on Switch

1. Login to the admin interface for your switch.
   
2. Select Maintenance > Download > HTTP File Download.
3. Select License key from the File Type dropdown and then browse to where the license file was downloaded to.
   
4. Select the license file.
5. Click 'Apply'.
6. "License file download through HTTP is completed successfully" will appear when the license has been applied.

Step 4: Restart the Switch and Confirm License Activation

1. Navigate to Maintenance > Reset > Device Reboot.
   
2. Click 'Apply' and wait for the switch to reboot.
3. Once the switch reboots, re-login and navigate to System > License > License Key to confirm that the license is activated on the switch.
