E-mail Alert won't work using Gmail for Google Apps account on ReadyNAS OS 6

Issue description

When trying to set up the e-mail alert feature on ReadyNAS OS 6 using a Gmail for Google Apps account, you receive the error message: "Unable to send a test message. Cannot send a test message. Please check authentication settings".

Solution:

To solve this issue, we need to enable Outbound Relay using the Google Apps administrator. To do this: 

Have the Google Apps administrator log into the control panel (admin.google.com)
Click Apps
Click Google Apps
Click Gmail
Click Advanced settings
Scroll to "Allow per-user outbound gateways" and select "Allow users to send mail through an external SMTP server when configuring a "from" address hosted outside your email domains"
Click Save changes
