ReadyNAS OS6 Smart Snapshot Management
This article covers ReadyNAS OS6 Snapshot Management, and Snapshot Retention Times.
ReadyNAS OS6 allows snapshots of shares or LUNs to be automatically taken at hourly, daily or weekly intervals.
- Hourly snapshots will be taken on the hour, every hour.
- Daily snapshots will be taken daily at midnight.
- Weekly snapshots will be taken on Friday at midnight.
Note that these times are not currently changeable.
In order to maintain a sufficient amount of free capacity, the ReadyNAS uses Smart Snapshot Management to prune older snapshots.
Snapshots are pruned based on the following retention times:
- Hourly snapshots will be kept for a period of 48 hours.
- Daily snapshots will be kept for a period of 4 weeks.
- Weekly snapshots will be kept for a period of 8 weeks.
- Monthly snapshots are retained forever.
Note 1: If volume usage exceeds 95% of total capacity, then the oldest snapshots will be automatically pruned to bring the volume usage below this 95% threshold.
Note 2: Smart Snapshot Management applies only to automatic snapshots. Snapshots taken manually, will not be pruned.
