ReadyNAS OS 6: Time Machine user limitation
NETGEAR is aware of an issue when using Shared and Private Time Machines.
You may run into this issue if
- you have more than 16 Private Time Machines configured on your ReadyNAS, or
- you have more than 15 Private Time Machines and a Shared Time Machine configured, and
- you are no longer able to see Private or Shared Time Machines broadcast through OS X's Time Machine client
Time Machine uses Avahi/mDNS to broadcast how many Time Machines are on the ReadyNAS. There is a maximum TXT record limit of 65535 bytes. More than 16 total Time Machines will exceed this value. As such, ReadyNAS OS 6.2 and up will encounter this issue, and the ReadyNAS will not prevent you from creating more than 16 (as of 6.4.0). The only work around is to delete the amount of Private Time Machines you have, and/or disable Shared Time Machine, until you have a maximum of 16 total Time Machines, or split the amount of Time Machines between different ReadyNAS units.
