ReadyNAS OS 6 - Managing home folder snapshots
How do I enable or disable home folder snapshotting?
You can enable or disable snapshotting of home folders by going to Shares > Home Folders > Settings. To disable, set the Snapshot Schedule to Never. To enable, set the Snapshot Schedule to the desired interval:
- Hourly: On the hour, every hour.
- Daily: Daily at midnight.
- Weekly: Every Friday at midnight.
How do I allow a user to have access to snapshots of their home folder?
To allow a user to have access to snapshots, go to Shares > Home Folders > Settings. Enable the Allow snapshot access checkbox for the required user and press Apply:
The user then sees a subfolder called 'snapshot' in their home folder. This subfolder contains the snapshots (read-only). Once the user has retrieved the data required from the snapshot, you can clear the Allow snapshot access checkbox to disable access.
How do I delete home folder snapshots?
The number of snapshots retained will be as per the Smart Snapshot Management retention rules:
- Hourly snapshots are kept for a period of 48 hours.
- Daily snapshots are kept for a period of 4 weeks.
- Weekly snapshots are kept for a period of 8 weeks.
- Monthly snapshots are retained forever.
See here for further information on Smart Snapshot Management.
If you wish to manually delete home folder snapshots, this can be done as follows:

- Navigate to the home folder directory, select the required user's home folder and then press Recover Files:
