Installing the latest firmware on a NETGEAR router
How do I check if my NETGEAR router is running the latest firmware version, and upgrade it to the latest version if required?
Overview:
Firmware is software that is loaded onto the hardware components of your NETGEAR router.
NETGEAR regularly releases new firmware versions to improve product performance, and add new features. It is highly recommended to check and update your router firmware version periodically. This article describes how to automatically update your router firmware through the NETGEAR router interface of GUI.
Symptoms:
- update the firmware of the router via the user interface
- check if there is a new firmware for the router
Process:
- Connect your computer wired to the router using an Ethernet cable.
Access the router settings page by clicking one of the links below:http://www.routerlogin.net
http://www.routerlogin.com
http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.0.1
Note: It is not advised to upgrade your router firmware wirelessly. - A window will prompt for a username and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".
Both username and password are case sensitive. If the default username and password are not working, you may have changed it previously.To overcome this, a factory reset will be needed.
- Once you see the NETGEAR Genie page, click on the Advanced tab. Then choose Firmware Update under Administration on the left hand panel.
