You can use the Arlo app and a compatible camera to have a remote conversation with someone who is standing next to your camera. If you want to speak to the person who approached the camera, tap the camera feed in the Arlo app, tap the microphone icon, and begin speaking.
- Arlo Ultra Series, Pro Series (Pro 3 and newer), Go 2, Essential Series, and Essential Video Doorbell Series use full-duplex 2-way audio. You only need to tap the microphone in the Arlo app once to engage in a conversation.
- Arlo Pro 2, Pro, Q Plus, Q, Baby, and Go use push-to-talk, which works the same as using a walkie-talkie. This means that you must press and hold the microphone in the Arlo app to speak, then let it go to listen to what the person on the camera side says.
Note: Your device must include or be connected to a working microphone for you to have a two-way conversation with your Arlo camera.
Full-duplex 2-way audio
When using full-duplex 2-way audio, you only need to tap the microphone in the Arlo app to begin a conversation. You can talk and listen at the same time.
To use full-duplex 2-way audio:
- Launch the Arlo app or log in to your Arlo account at my.arlo.com.
- Tap or click the play button on one of your camera's live streams.
The Microphone icon displays at the bottom of the camera feed. - Tap, or click and hold, the Microphone icon and start speaking and listening to the audio from your Arlo camera.
- When you are done using full-duplex two-way audio, tap X.
Note: Only audio from the camera end is recorded. The viewer’s voice is not recorded and is not audible during video playback.
Push-to-talk
Using push-to-talk is functionally identical to speaking through a walkie-talkie. You must press and hold the microphone button in the Arlo app to speak, then release it to listen to the audio from your Arlo camera.
To use push-to-talk:
- Launch the Arlo app or log in to your Arlo account at my.arlo.com.
- Tap or click the play button on one of your camera's live streams.
The Microphone icon displays. - Tap, or click and hold, the Microphone icon, and start speaking.
Note: When you are speaking, you cannot hear any sounds from the camera until you release the Microphone button. - Release the Microphone button to hear sounds from the camera.
- When you are done using push-to-talk, release the Microphone icon.
